All the visitors visiting as tourists require a valid tourist visa which is a B2 visa or an ESTA.
Under B2 visa tourists can visit only on a temporary basis to the United States. The applicants can go sightseeing, call upon family and friends or, if needed, can undertake city tours and receive medical treatment in the US.
If tourists are participating in VWP (Visa Waiver Program) countries and departing for their trip, they are required to acquire an ESTA before departing.
Visa Requirements
A B2 visa can only be obtained abroad. The purpose of their trip must be justified by the applicants. The purpose of the trip can only be for tourism, pleasure, or medical treatment.
B2 visa applicants need to show that they have sufficient funds to support themselves during their stay. Applicants have to return to their home country at the end of their stay and they need to prove it. They have to meet certain character and health requirements.
Visa Entitlements
The maximum time a B2 visa applicant may remain in the US for six (6) months. In certain cases, some B2 visa holders may be allowed to stay up to 12 months.
A B2 visa holder is not entitled to take up employment but may be permitted to undertake short-term study course during his stay, nor will he allowed to undertake long-term study course. A B2 visa holder is allowed to change his visa status during his stay itself to engage in employment or to undertake a full-time study course, in some particular circumstances.
